License Number Recognition System - Look

The system is founded on the ability to find a license plate in a video signal from a video camera and process it into text form. Thanks to special hardware, the system can simultaneously process a signal from up to four cameras at a speed of 10 photographs per second. The recognized license plate is then compared with special databases. This allows it to recognize a stolen car, for instance.

System function

A computer evaluates a video camera image at the moment the vehicle arrives at an inspection point and determines the field in which the license plate is located. It tries to identify and compare the symbols in the license plate field from several consecutive photographs. It offers the best corresponding result as a result of recognition in an ASCII symbol format for further processing. The parameters of recognizing and identifying license plates can be set in detail depending on local conditions:

• It compares the recognized license plate with internal databases.
• For the license plate found it announces the color and make of the car contained in the database
• If appropriate it sets off an alarm with a text announcement
• The system creates a list of vehicles that have passed through, arranged by date and time of entry, which can be searched by a combination of several filters
